Abstract
409,708. Windscreen - cleaners. WERNERT, G. R., and GAGNAIRE, J. F., 11, Rue Villeroy, Lyon, France. Nov. 1, 1933, No. 30349. Convention date, Nov. 7, 1932. [Class 138 (i).] A number of windscreen-wipers are connected to a motor solely through the medium of a link coupling the wipers and provided with abutment surfaces adapted to be engaged by a member carried by a rotatable part of the motor. In the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the shaft 5 of an electric motor 1 is provided with a crank 7 having a pin 8 adapted to engage a groove 9 in a rod 11 for the purpose of imparting oscillating movement to a pair of wipers mounted on shafts 6. The motor is mounted on a movable portion 2 of a motor vehicle so that it can be easily detached. The rod 11 is preferably a resilient metal plate which can be pressed out of engagement with the pin 8. As shown in Fig. 5, a rod 16 having a knob 18 presses inwardly the plate 11 on operation of the knob against the action of a spring 19. At the same time a projection 20 on the rod 16 is moved out of a slot 21 in a socket 17 fixed to the portion 2 of the vehicle. Thereafter if the rod 16 is partly rotated, the projection 20 moves clear of the slot and the plate 11, now disengaged from the crank pin of the motor, is operated to position the wipers clear of the screen, this operation taking place by the engagement of an abutment 23 on the plate with a lever 22 carried by the rod 16. The rod may carry a contact 24 which closes a switch for the motor circuit when the projection 20 is in the slot 21. The lever 22 may be omitted, in which case the plate 11 is free to be operated by hand after the rod 16 has disengaged it from the crank pin. The groove 9 in the plate 11 may have other forms than that shown in Fig. 3, for example, it may be in the form of a closed curve or may be a large aperture of elliptical or other outline. The plate 11 instead of being resilient may be rigid but resiliently mounted between opposed springs. In the construction shown in Fig. 10, the driving shaft 5 is provided with a heart-shaped cam 40 movable between two rollers 41, 42 mounted on the plate 11. In a further construction shown in Fig. 18, the crank pin 8 is fitted into a member 47 slidably and resiliently mounted on a rod 48, the ends of which are provided with slide blocks 49 guided by the sides of the aperture 9 in the plate 11. In the arrangement shown in Figs. 15 and 16, the plate 11 is operatively connected to the motor through a resilient plate 45 formed with the groove 9 for engaging the crank pin 8 of the motor. The plate 45 instead of being resilient may consist of two rigid portions hinged together, one portion, formed with the groove 9, being held resiliently in line with the other portion.
