Abstract
352,265. Windscreen wipers. BRUMM, E., 11 bis, Rue St-Gervais, Lyons, France. July 14, 1930, No. 21339. Convention date, July 12, 1929. [Class 138 (i).] Relates to screen wipers of the kind wherein the wiper arm is oscillated by a vane, the two sides of which are alternatively connected to a suction source, a valve being controlled by the spindle of the oscillating vane through the medium of a cam or similar device provided with a spring, this spring causing the device to complete its traverse as soon as it has passed its dead centre position. To ensure that the wiper arm stops and remains in one of its extreme positions, means are provided for putting the spring out of action, so that, at the end of the stroke, the suction continues to act on one of the faces of the piston. The oscillating vane 1 carries a pin 7 co-operating with a lug 9 on a valve operating member provided with a cam 6 and lugs a<1>, b<1>, and loosely mounted on the main shaft 8. A valve 2 is also loosely mounted on the same shaft and is formed with lugs a, b, and a curved slot 2a adapted to connect a suction port 3 with either a port 4 or a port 5, these opening on either side of the vane. The cam 6 co-operates with the bent end of a spring 10. Normally, on the vane reaching the end of its traverse, the pin 7 engages the lug 9 and moves the nose of the cam over the dead centre position in respect of the end of the spring 10. The spring then slides up the cam causing the lug a<1> or b<1> to reverse the valve. To cause the wiper to stop, a slide 12, with an operating knob 13, is provided with an arm 14 adapted to depress the end of the spring away from the cam. The reversal of the direction of application of the suction is, thus, prevented.
