Abstract
348,460. Guards for combing- machines. . COLLISON, D., Sorento, Queensway, Penworthan, Preston. July 15, 1930, No. 21369. [Class 80 (iv).] In order to prevent cotton-combing machine operatives from injuring themselves or the machine by raising the top comb 3 to obtain access to interior parts while the machine is running, one or other of the levers 2, 2a carrying the comb is provided with an extension 4 normally lying beneath an arm 5, but not contacting with it in its ordinary reciprocation. The arm 5 extends from a sliding rod 6 linked to the belt-shipping lever 8, so that when the belt is on the loose pulley 12a, as shown in Fig. 2, the comb 3 can be lifted, the extension 4 then lying in the return path of the arm 5 to prevent restarting. The comb may carry a trellis-work, glass, or other transparent shield 14 covering the rollers. The hinged cover 19 for the driving-gearing may be simultaneously locked and released by an arm 15 on the front starting-rod 11 linked to the belt-shipper, or additionally or alternatively by a pivoted latch 22 having pin-and-slot connection with an arm 21 on the rod 6, the cover 19, when open, also preventing return of the rod 6.
