Abstract

348,377. PortiÞre rods. LOVELL, J., 5, Balfour Street, Balsall Heath, Birming- ham. May 9, 1930, No. 14375. [Class 52 (v).] In a portiÞre rod arrangement of the type in which one end of the rod 2 pivots on a bracket 1 secured to the door &c. frame and is pivoted at the other end to an arm 13 pivoted to the door &c. 30 so that the rod is raised when the door &c. is opened, the arm 13 is formed of strip or sheet metal. The attachment plate 18 is preferably a sheet metal pressing with a cup-shaped central portion to receive the head of the pivot 17 and is provided with a pressed-out stop 22 to limit the movement of the arm 13. The upper end of the arm 13 carries a pivoted band-clip 23 to engage the rod 2. The bracket 1 may also be made of sheet or strip metal and carries a threaded pin upon which the rod pivots. The thread may be formed by a pressing operation. In a modification the rod may carry a band-clip which pivots on the pin. The arm 13 and bracket 1 may be pressed to a shallow channel section and may have one or more strengthening ribs.
