Abstract

346,909. Endless belt conveyers. THOMPSON (WOLVERHAMPTON), Ltd., J., Ettingshall Engineering Works, PARTRIDGE, H. E., 48, Castlecroft Road, Finchfield, both in Wolverhampton, and COLLINGE, J., 2, High Bank, Bolton Road, Pendlebury, Lancashire. Feb. 21, 1930, No. 5753. [Class 78 (i).] In apparatus for quenching and conveying ashes of the kind including an endless belt passing through a trough of water, the edges of the belt 1 are pressed against supporting rails 5 by pressure members 6 contained in housings 7 and acted on by fluid pressure. In a modification fluid pressure is applied beneath the belt to force the edges upwards into contact with strips fixed to the trough. In another modification each edge of the belt is maintained in contact with a curved support 14, Fig. 2, by springs 16 acting on a rubber strip 5. In a further modification the edges are bent upwards so that the belt forms a trough, and are pressed against the sides of the trough by a spring-pressed rubber strip. In all constructions the belt may be supported also by longitudinal members 3 fixed to the bottom of the trough. Holes 4 in these members permit the circulation of water therethrough.
