Abstract
Heat is supplied electrically to steel or other ingots, while in their chills, to regulate the cooling. The mould is preferably surrounded by a high-frequency coil which is energized when the temperature of the ingot approaches the \3 point and until this is passed. This treatment may be repeated at the A1 point. Thus a carbon steel may be kept at 1200-1100 DEG C. for several hours or a nickel-chromium steel at about 1350 DEG C. for a still longer time.
