Abstract
Steel sections are age hardened by subjecting the cold worked sections to a temperature between 300 DEG C. and 1500 DEG C. for thirty minutes to one hundredth of a second, the time being inversely proportional to the temperature. The sections may be cold-twisted or cold-drawn and passed through a furnace held at the required temperature, the speed of travel through the furnace being adjusted to give the required duration of treatment. The heated sections may be immediately quenched in water or another medium, or may be cooled in air for a short time before quenching.
