Abstract
273,326. Stedefeld, C. June 28, 1926, [Convention date]. Annealing.-In a method of welding permanentway rail joints the metal in a welded joint produced by a known process is refined and transformed from a coarse grained structure into a fine grained structure by a subsequent heat treatment. The joint is first heated to above the highest critical point, e.g. to 700‹-900‹ C., preferably by electric heating means, is then quenched by oil or water sprayers, reheated to a temperature below the upper critical point, i.e. about 550‹-700‹ C., and cooled in air, warm oil or water. The heating may be carried out by the welding apparatus.
