[Class 72] [Also in Group XI] A rail is heated preparatory to chilling by arranging the upper portion only of the head 17 between the poles 14 of an electromagnet and continuing heating until the temperature of the upper portion is raised above the critical temperature. Chilling is applied after and for a predetermined time interval. Specification 446,111, [Group XI], is referred to.
