Abstract
The alloy steels set out in the parent Specification are subjected to a solution heat treatment at temperatures of 20-150 DEG C below their incipient melting points, preferably between 1200 DEG and 1360 DEG C, and then cooled. The alloy may be heated for 1-20 minutes, the length of time depending on the temperature used, e.g. at 1320 DEG C for three minutes, followed by cooling in air or quenching in oil. The treatment may be performed in an inert or reducing atmosphere preferably free from compounds of sulphur.
