Annealing.-In a method of annealing metals without soaking, the metal is heated uniformly throughout its mass by the passage of an electric current therethrough, to a temperature exceeding that required by external heating, the current being cut off as soon as the desired grain structure of the metal is produced. For annealing brass condenser tubes, the process may be carried out in the apparatus described in Specification 106,940, the temperature required being 500‹ C'. The heating may be controlled in various well-known ways to give the desired temperature.
