Abstract
247,941. Gelsenkirchener Bergwerks- Akt.-Ges. Feb. 21, 1925, [Convention date]. Drawings to Specification. Purifying and refining; annealing. - In the production of a cast iron with the finest distribution of graphite, the molten iron is heated over (e.g. 100 to 200‹ C. over) the temperature above which the formation of carbide decreases and the formation of graphite increases, this temperature being about 300-500‹ C. higher than the temperature of solidification. In an example, a east iron containing 3.23 per cent of carbon has, after heating at 1600‹ C., 3.12 per cent of graphite and 0.11 per cent of carbide. A small amount of iron mav be so treated and then mixed with iron which is heated to its melting point or a little higher. The iron so treated is particularly suitable for casting in permanent moulds especially by the centrifugal process. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that the casting may be annealed by heating to 850-875‹ C. for a short time and then cooling slowly. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
