Abstract

Spinning nozzles for artificial filaments are made of alloys comprising 7 to 15% of iridium and more than 15%, but not more than 30% rhodium, the remainder being palladium. The palladium may be replaced in amounts up to 15% by other platinum metals as well as by gold or silver or by rhenium. The palladium may also be replaced by up to 10% by iron, cobalt, nickel, manganese, copper, indium and/or tungsten. Nozzles made from alloys which have been soft annealed at temperatures ranging from 1100 DEG to 1250 DEG C. may be given a greater hardness by heat treatment at temperatures between 700 DEG and 900 DEG C.ALSO:Alloys suitable for making spinning nozzles comprise 7 to 15% of iridium and more than 15% but not more than 30% of rhodium, the remainder being palladium. The palladium may be replaced in amounts up to 15% by other platinum metals as well as by gold or silver or by rhenium. The palladium may also be replaced by up to 10% by iron, cobalt, nickel, manganese, copper, indium and/or tungsten. Alloys which have been soft annealed at a temperature ranging from 1100 DEG C. to 1250 DEG C. may be hardened by heat-treatment at temperatures between 700 DEG C. and 900 DEG C.
