Abstract
Alloys capable of substantial age-hardening are made from basic alloys which contain from 60 to nearly 100 per cent of gold or silver or both as the main constituent, and up to 30 per cent of a metal of the platinum group, with or without other precious or non-precious metals such as copper, by the addition to the basic alloy of about 0,02-5 per cent of one or more of the metals iron, nickel, cobalt, and manganese, or about 1-8 per cent of one or more of the metals zinc, cadmium, and chromium, or metals from both these groups. In the examples given the alloys are age-hardened by heating at about 900 DEG C., quenching, and annealing at about 550 DEG C. for varying periods of time. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also alloys which contain platinum as the main constituent with subordinate quantities of other metals of the platinum group, and the addition of magnesium as a metal for promoting age-hardening. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
