Abstract

346,015. Brake transmitting mechanism. ROCKWELL, E. A. and EVANS, E. R., 1725, Diversey Parkway, Chicago, U.S.A. Oct. 29, 1929, No. 32813. Convention date, May 29. [Class 103 (i).] A brake mechanism comprises a power operating arm 12 arranged to actuate an intermediate lever 30 which exerts a thrust on a lateral contact face provided on a brake applying lever 17. the contact face being in a plane at right-angles to the plane of movement of the brake applying lever. The power is derived from the vehicle transmission shaft. The levers 30, 17 are independently rotatable on a common pivot 18. The lever 30 is provided with an arm 37 which engages an arm 38 on the lever 17 in order to turn this lever. The front brake connection 15 is attached to the lower arm of the lever 17 at a point further from the pivot 18 than the connection 16 to the rear brakes in order to obtain greater power exerted on the front brakes. The bearing opening in the lever 17 may be elongated horizontally in order to equalize the pull on the front and rear brakes. An emergency brake lever 21 is connected by a rod 25 to the pivot 20 connecting lever 17 and rod 15. The rod 25 is freely movable in one direction through a swivel pin 27 to allow of power brake application.
