Abstract

803,949. Linkwork; Bowden mechanism. TRICO-FOLBERTH, Ltd. Oct. 15, 1956 [Oct. 14, 1955], No. 29376/55. Class 80 (3). A linkage for enabling an output member, such as a Bowden cable 3, to be actuated by either of two input members, such as Bowden cables 1, 2, while the subsequent movement of the other input member will have no effect comprises bellcrank levers 5, 6 pivoted about a common pivot 7 and coupled respectively with the cables 1, 2 and links 8, 9. The other ends of the links 8, 9 are connected by a pin 10 which cooperates with a slot 11 in a lever 12 pivoted at 13 and connected to the cable 3. The slot 11 is in two parts each curved at a radius equal to the length of links 8, 9 and so orientated that the movement of one input member will effect movement of lever 12 and the output member 3 whilst the subsequent movement of the other input member will merely cause the pin 10 to move along the slot 11 without effecting further movement of the lever 12. The mechanism is particularly applicable to the control of a windscreen wiper of a motor car by either a manually-operated knob or by a washer operating mechanism.
