Hand and other personal actuation; forcetransmitting mechanism.-In equalizing mechanism for the brakes of the four wheels of a vehicle, equalization as between the brakes or the two sides of the vehicle is effected by a swing bar connected to a pair of levers connected respectively to the brakes on the two sides, each of these levers being connected to a lever connected to a front wheel brake and pivoted upon a lever connected to the rear wheel brake on that side whereby equalization as between the front and rear brakes is effected. The lever c freely mounted upon the cross-shaft b is connected to the operating-pedal and hand-lever respectively by the rod d and link e and to the swing bar g by the rod s. The swing bar is pivoted to levers h, h<1> keyed respectively to sleeves i, i<1> freely mounted upon the shaft b. Arms o, o<1> rigid with the sleeves i, i<1> respectively, engage levers m, m<1> connected to the front wheel brakes and pivoted at n, n<1> upon levers k, k<1> connected to the rear wheel brakes. The levers k, k<1> are mounted freely upon the sleeves i, i<1>. When the hand-lever or pedal is actuated to apply the brakes, the swing bar g equalizes the force applied to the levers h, h<1>. Engagement of the arms o<1> with the levers m at first turns the levers k, m together about the shaft b and when the lever k is-held by the application of the rear brake, the lever m turns on the pivot n and applies the front brake. The brakes on the other side of the vehicle are similarly applied. To enable the brakes on one side of the vehicle to be applied if a control cable on the other side should break, stops are provided on the levers h, h<1> for limiting the swinging movement of the bar g. The rod s is provided with an adjusting- nut t within reach of the driver. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) the pedal and hand-lever may be connected directly or by rack and pinion to the rod s instead of by the lever c, and the lever h may actuate the levers m, k by a quadrant, a link, or a rack. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
