Abstract

Ammonium carbamate is obtained by causing ammonia and carbon dioxide to react in an aqueous solution of urea, which may also contain ammonium carbamate initially, and separating the resulting ammonium carbamate from the solution. Temperatures of 5-50 DEG C. may be employed. Preferably, the gases should be brought into contact with the solution in a fine state of dispersion or the solution should be kept in motion by stirring or shaking during the introduction of the gases. An example is given.
