[Class 35.] High-frequency machines; rotary transformers; cores.-In a high-frequency machine having a stator wound with one or more high-frequency windings, the rotor has an exciting winding and is toothed with a pitch corresponding to the pitch of the high-frequency winding slots, and a lowfrequency winding is provided on the stator to utilize the flux arising from the main poles of the rotor. The machine may be used as a frequency changer by applying low-frequency current to the low-frequency winding, a short-circuited winding being placed on the rotor for starting purposes. The machine is operated synchronously as a motor or frequency changer by adding a continuouscurrent exciting winding to the rotor. In the form shown, the stator has slots h, n for the high- and lowfrequency windings respectively, there being two high-frequency slots per rotor tooth. The rotor has an exciting winding E and may be solid. In a modified form, some of the stator slots may be shaped to receive both low- and high-frequency windings.
