Abstract
344,181. Transformers. GOODLET, B. L., Ambleside, Spennithorne, Urmston, Manchester, and ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Bush House, Aldwych, London. Feb. 11, 1930, No. 4596. [Class 38 (ii).] A high - frequency transformer comprises a low tension winding 2 wound on hollow conical former 3 disposed within a cylindrical former 10 carrying the high tension winding 9 which is connected at its upper end to a top plate 20 forming the high tension terminal and having a rounded edge 33 for stress distribution. The two formers are supported on a hollow base 5 forming the lower part of an oil tank, the side walls of which are formed by a micanite or other insulating cylinder 12. The upper end of the low tension winding 2 is connected to the base 5, whilst the lower ends of both windings and also intermediate points such as 19 on the low tension winding are connected to terminals 14, 15, 16 mounted on the base 5. Stress distributing rings 25, 26 are provided at the upper ends of the windings, and in order to increase the capacity to earth of the high voltage winding, a condenser comprising electrodes 28, 29 connected respectively to the high tension terminal and to earth is mounted above the transformer on a strut 30.
