July 11, 1930, No. 21060/30. Convention date, July 11, 1929. [Class 38 (ii).] Static contact rectifiers; arrangements of.-The plates of a dry surface or contact rectifier, comprising a pair of metallic plates 10, 11 containing tellurium and magnesium respectively separated by a partially conducting layer 12 in which is positioned a control grid 13, are connected to A.C. supply terminals 14 through a D.C. load 15 such as a storage battery or a loud speaker. Rectified current supplied to the load 15 is controlled by the grid potential supplied to the grid 13 from a source 16 through a transformer 17, bias battery 18, and a variable resistance 19, the action of the device being analogous to that of a vacuum valve such as is used in radio circuits.
