Convention date, Nov. 9, 1931. [Class 38 (iv).] An arrangement responsive to the power factor of an A.C. circuit comprises potential and current transformers connected to the circuit, a grid-controlled vapour rectifier, and means responsive to the rectified current, such as a relay 34 controlling power-factor correcting appliances, the anode circuit of the rectifier being excited from the potential transformer and the grid circuit from the current transformer. In the arrangement shown, in which the invention is applied to a three-phase circuit having three conductors 11, 12, 13, a pair of valves 19, 20 is employed, and the potential transformer 14 is connected across two of the conductors 11, 13, while the current transformer 24 is connected in the third conductor. With this arrangement, the grid and anode voltages are displaced 90‹ for unity power factor, and the rectified current increases for leading, and decreases for lagging, power factors.
