July 26, 1933, No. 21054. Convention date, July 26, 1932. [Class 38 (ii).] Polyphase rectifiers 3<1>, 3<11> fed from an A.C. network through transformers 2<1>, 2<11> have control grids supplied from a phase shifting transformer 5 through grid transformers 6<1>, 6<11> so that the power transmitted can be controlled. Resistances 7<1>, 7<11> are included in the cathode circuits and the voltage drops in these resistances are used for biassing the control grids in such a way as to correct for unequal load distribution. If, for example, the rectifier 3<1> takes too large a share of load, then the voltage across the resistance 7<1> increases and retards the moment of ignition in the rectifier 3<1> so that a correction is effected.
