542,562. Converting. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. Aug. 30, 1940, No. 13638. Convention date, Sept. 7, 1939. [Class 38 (ii) ] The output characteristics of a grid controlled rectifier 7, 8, 9 are controlled by two hot cathode tubes 52, 62, the cathode of one being heated according to the voltage of the load circuit 15, 17 and the other being heated according to the load current. The adjustment may be such that the latter is operative only above a certain current value and then supersedes the voltage control. The tubes circulate current from an auxiliary source 49 through the same control resistance 35 which is included in the grid circuit of the rectifier so as to apply a negative bias superposed upon impulses from a transformer 42.
