Abstract

390,771. Rectifying alternating current. SOC. ANON. HEWITTIC and DEMONTVIGNIER, M., 11, Rue du Pont, Suresnes, Seine, France. Nov. 19, 1932, No. 32769. Convention date, Dec. 23, 1931. [Class 38 (ii).] In an arrangement for the parallel operation of grid-controlled arc rectifiers having chokes in the anode leads, the grid circuits are magneticaly coupled to the anode circuit so that when one or more of the anodes start a positive potential is applied to the control grids of those anodes which have failed to start to ensure their starting. The anodes 2, 3, Fig. 1, are connected to an A.C. circuit 1 through chokes 4, 5 which may be separate or magnetically coupled, and the control grids 9, 10 are fed from the centre tapped secondary of a transformer, the primary 6 of which is.connected between the anodes 2, 3. The centre tapping 7 is connected to a source 8 of control potential. If the anode 2 commences conduction before the anode 3 a potential will be applied to the primary 6-by reason of the drop of potential of the anode 2 with respect to the anode 3 and the secondary is so connected that a. positive potential will be applied to the grid 10 to start conduction of anode 3. In a modification for a rectifying arrangement with three or more anodes the grid transformer has the same number of cores as there are anodes. The primary and secondary windings are star connected and the star point of the secondary is connected to the source 8. In a modification, Fig. 4, the primary windings 32, 33 of the transformer feeding the gripds form the anode chokes.
