Abstract
386,992. Controlling consuming devices. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.- (General Electric Co. ; Schenectady, New York, U.S.A.) June 22, 1931, No. 18019. [Class 38 (iv).] Means for intermittently opening and closing an alternating electric circuit comprises a pair of oppositely connected vapour electric discharge devices 13, 13<1>, such as of the type described in Specification 153,532, [Class 39 (i), Electric lamps, Arc &c.]. These devices conduct a portion of each half cycle depending upon the magnitude and the phase, relative to the anodes, of the potentials of the grids. These grids are energized through a phase shifter 23 supplied from the secondary of an autotransformer 30. In the system disclosed, the discharge devices control the supply to a phase winding 6 of an induction motor and the primary of the transformer 30 is connected in parallel with the devices.
