[Class 38 (iv).] In a step-up system of transformers each successive transformer T<2> is raised to the potential of the secondary O<1> of the preceding transformer T<1> but receives its energy from a separate generator g<2>. All the generators but the first g<1> are insulated from earth and from each other, though they may be driven from a common source of power. Each generator may be coupled to its own exciter a<1>, a<2>, the exciter rheostats r<1>, r2 being controlled through insulated shafts. In order to bring the exciting e.m.f. of each transformer into correct phase relation with the output from preceding transformers the stator frame of each generator may be rotatably supported and adjusted through an insulated shaft m<1>, m<2>.
