Abstract

248,344. Siemens - Schuckertwerke Ges. Feb. 27, 1925, [Convention date]. Systems depending on two - or more machines.-The range of wattless energy compensation available from asynchronous machines is increased by a reversal of the magnetizing component of their excitation tension by any suitable means. The asynchronous motor 1, Fig. 2, adjusted to run at synchronous speed, has the field of its exciter 2 provided by a transformer 3 arranged with a neutral point in the middle of each secondary winding whereby reversal of the excitation tension may be obtained by changing the tapping to one side or the other of the neutral or by shifting the neutral point. These two machines may be combined in one and reversal obtained by shifting the brushes. Cyclic interchanges of the connections between the motor 1 and exciter 2 could be used to cause reversal of excitation. Mechanical means are also suggested, such as a relative displacement of the machine elements or of the elements of a converting unit taking the place of the transformer 3, including the use of an adjustable coupling or gear. Further, a combination of mechanical displacement with an electrical displacement may be employed.
