Abstract
319,072. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., and Parry, R. D. June 19, 1928. Motor-generators.-In a motor-generator set including a synchronous motor, the motor and generator excitations are simultaneously varied as the load on the generator varies by means of a regulator having vibratory contacts controlled by the generator output and excitation, which regulator operates directly or through a relay to control simultaneously resistances in the excitation circuits of the motor and the generator. As shown applied to a frequency-converting set comprising a synchronous motor 1 and an alternator 3, the motor and generator fields 5, 7 respectively are supplied by exciters 6, 8 mounted on the common shaft, and resistances 17, 18 in the exciter field circuits are adapted to be shortcircuited by pairs of contacts 15, 16 of a relay 14 controlled by a vibratory regulator 9 of the Tirrill type. The winding 10 of the regulator is energized from the exciter 8 and the winding 11 from the line 4 carrying the generator output. The vibratory regulator may be of the type described in Specification 28190/08, [Class 38, Electricity, Regulating &c.].
