Transformers. - To enable the core height of large single-phase transformers to be kept small, a core is built up of three or more units 1, 2 placed end to end with ventilating spaces 5 between them, the intermediate unit or units being twice the width of the end units so that the windings 3, 4 may be arranged on the legs formed by the side members of adjacent units. Concentric or interleaved windings may be used and the sections of the primary and secondary may be connected respectively in either series or parallel.
