Polyphase transformers. - In transformers in which one primary winding is associated with two or more secondary windings feeding a corresponding number of mercury vapour rectifiers, if all the windings are distributed over the whole length of the core limbs, the voltage drop from no load to full load with only one rectifier in use is halved as compared with the drop when both rectifiers are in use. When the two secondary windings are each distributed over half the core limbs and interleaved with opposite halves of the primary, however, the drop with one rectifier in use is greater than when both are in use. According to the invention, the two secondary windings are distributed over such proportions of the core and interleaved with such proportions of the primary that the voltage drop at full load is the same with one rectifier in use as with both in use.
