Abstract

Sinuous-tube and U-tube superheaters ; dampers for controlling superheaters.-Return-tube boilers have an external return chamber in which baffles or partitions form secondary spaces accommodating a superheater supplied with boiler steam and delivering to another superheater in the main gas stream. A marine boiler 12 has baffles or partitions 6 in an external return chamber 2 which provide secondary spaces 5, and superheaters 10, 11 receiving steam from the boiler are arranged therein, being connected to a further superheater 13 in the main gas stream. The gases pass to the smoke box 8 from the main space 15 through fire tubes 17 and from the. secondary spaces through fire tubes 7 the outlet of which may be closed by dampers 9. In a modification the first superheater is located in a rearward extension of the return chamber from. which the extension is separated by a partition, and gas openings are provided above and below the partition the lower opening being damper-controlled.
