Safety valves ; spindles. - A leveroperated safety-valve of the type having a confined flow or exhaust has the valve-operating lever 1 fulcrumed at one end 2 and pivotally engaged at 3 by the upper end 4 of the valve spindle 5, said spindle being enclosed in a guide or bush 8 with an upward extension 8<1> affording clearance for the spindle at 7 in the guide 8 and a greater clearance at 8<2> in the extension 8<1> to allow the spindle to move freely with the lever 1, thus reducing side thrust. Pins 1<1> prevent sidewise movement of the lever 1.
