Abstract

881,005. Valves. LICENTIA PATENTVERWALTUNGS-G.m.b.H. July 16, 1958 [July 29, 1957], No. 22819/58. Class 135. A quick-acting valve comprises within a casing 25 a valve closure member 10 which coacts with a valve seating 46 and is provided with a spindle 11 carrying a retainer plate 29 for a loading spring 30. A connecting rod 16 extends from the spindle 11 and is connected to a crank mechanism comprising a screwed sleeve 37, a disc 39, ball bearings 42, a ring 38 and a pair of crank webs 21. The disc 39 is connected by two universal joints 47, 48 to a longitudinally movable spindle 49 which is rotatably connected to a hand wheel 51. In operation the mechanism is normally in the position shown with the ring 38 held by gravity or by a spring against a stop pin 43 so that the spring 30 is stressed. If the pin 43 is depressed to push the crank mechanism over the top dead centre position the spring 30 is released to close the valve quickly. The actuating mechanism may be returned to its initial position by first rotating the hand wheel in one direction to bring the crank mechanism to the position shown and then in the other direction to open the valve and stress the spring 30. It is suggested in the Specification that the pin 43 may be hydraulically actuated or hydraulically released for spring actuation.
