Abstract
335,299. Overmann, O. July 10, 1929. Condensers, atmospheric and like.-An air cooler for blast furnace gases comprises vertically or horizontally extending columns or gas passages within which a number of parallel air passages extend, having in cross-section the shape of an elongated rectangle or oval. The cooling towers 2 of rectangular section are connected by a doublewalled bottom 4 which is sloped at two sides. Air passages 5, Fig. 3, open outwardly to the atmosphere at the top and communicate with the space between the doublewalled base. Gases to be cooled enter by a branch pipe 3 and are drawn through the apparatus either by natural draught or by the use of a fan. The heated air in the elongated passages rises and the air current produced may be increased by a fan 7; dust deposits collect at 4. Iron or brick towers may be used. In a modification, the towers may be arranged so that the gases and cooling air flow in a horizontal direction. In a further modification, several coolers are arranged in series the air passing through them on the countercurrent system. Specification 142,938 is referred to.
