Abstract

1468. Bliss, J. Jan. 21. Heating liquids and air.-Air and other gases flow between substantially vertical plates, down which liquids trickle. Above a number of such plates B, and in contact with their top edges, is a tank D, the bottom E of which is constructed of felt or other porous material, a second tank F collecting the drippings from the plates. The apparatus may be enclosed in a casing G, and the air or other gas be made to circulate by forced or induced draught. A fan H is shown. In a modification, the plates are arranged in sets above one another, and the gas traverses them seriatim. The apparatus may be used for cooling, heating, humidifying, or extracting moisture from air, or for cooling or heating water &c.
