Abstract

659,391. Cooling gases and liquids for electric transformer tanks. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and MORRIS, G. G. Oct. 26, 1948, No. 27826. [Class 64(iii)] An electric transformer 10 enclosed in a tank 13 or chamber is cooled by circulating a fluid, e.g. air, by a fan or fans 34 through and/or over the transformer and through heat-exchanging means 36 mounted on and connected by ducts 22, pipes or the like to the interior of the tank or chamber, atmospheric air being forced or drawn over the heat-exchanging means by a fan or fans 33. In the form shown, air is circulated by a pair of fans 34 down through the main part of the tank, up through return paths 22 formed by partitions 18, through two pairs of tubular heat exchangers 36. Two fans 33 each draw atmospheric air laterally over a pair of heat exchangers 36 into a surrounding casing, and expel it upwardly. A baffle 20 and a perforated plate 19 are provided above and below the transformer windings. According to the Provisional Specification the circulating fluid may be liquid.
