Picking motions of the type wherein the shuttle is driven by contact of one or more ribs thereon with one or more grooved friction or clamping discs 1, 2. These are mounted on and are driven by a friction clutch from a hub or disc 3 to which is fixed a hub 4 serving as a belt pulley. The friction clutch is formed by plungers 6 actuated by springs 5 arranged in axial holes in the discs 3, 4, and engaging thin brake discs 7, 8, on the discs 1, 2. The friction clutch allows for the necessary slipping when the shuttle first engages the clamping-discs.
