Class 80 (2) In a centrifugal friction clutch, the spring- retracted weights are influenced both by their centrifugal force and by the driven load in both directions, so that during drive the load assists the centrifugal action while when the load tends to overrun it opposes the centrifugal action. As shown in Fig. 1, centrifugal weights 2, adapted to press plates 12 against the sides of a driving drum 1 and normally retracted by a garter spring 3, are pivotally carried by levers 4, the other ends of which have slots 8 engaging pins 10 fixed to a hub 9 secured to the driven shaft 11. As shown in Fig. 2, the weights 2 are radially guided by stems 18 which have inclined inner ends 17 co-operating with inclined surfaces 16 on the hub 9, which latter has projections 19 with inclined surfaces co-operating with inclined shoulders 21 on the stems 18.
