Abstract
403,844. Friction clutches. BENN, H. H., Electricity Works, Lynton, Devon. March 20, 1933, No. 8318. [Class 80 (ii).] A friction clutch comprises a driving flange member a, a driven drum b, and a split ring c arranged within the drum and caused to rotate with the member a, so as to be expanded by the action of its own centrifugal force into contact with the drum, by means of a block d which projects from the member a axially into the gap between the ends of the partiallyexpanded ring c, the width of the block being greater than the length of the gap when the ring is not expanded. The centrifugal action is increased by filling the space between the ring and the boss e of the members a with segmental weights k in such manner that, when the clutch is disengaged, the weights are gripped by the' ring and in turn grip the boss e.
