Abstract

332,127. Hofmann, J. W. Sept. 16, 1929. Sleeve couplings. - In a coupling for steelaluminium conductors, the steel wires are clamped by a pair of engaging cones and the aluminium wires by another pair of cones arranged non-concentrically with respect to the first pair. In the construction shown in Fig. 2, the steel core b of the conductor a is held by a core c and an externally-threaded counter-core d, tightened by a nut e which transmits the core tension of conductor a to the core of the other conductor a<1>. The conductor a' is similarly clamped. The aluminium wires of the conductor a are clamped from the outside by cones f and g, held in position by a nut h adapted to screw on the end of a sleeve i which transmits the tension of the aluminium wires of conductor a to the aluminium wires of conductor a', similarly gripped at the opposite end. The cones are formed with smooth surfaces but the inside of the core f may be threaded to prevent slipping of the aluminium wires. In the modification shown in Fig. 4, the device is adapted for use as a pressure-releasing clamp, the nut e being externally threaded to receive the sleeve i and formed so as to convey the line tension to an insulator chain.
