Winch - actuated hoists with guided skips.-A guided-skip hoist having a vertical or inclined track continued as a horizontal track is provided with means such as a twodiameter or two-speed winch and a balance weight to provide a slow speed on the horizontal part of the track. The load - carrying truck d runs on a vertical or as shown an inclined track b having a horizontal track a at its upper end. The hoisting rope e passes from the truck to a winch l having a larger barrel for quick hoisting and a smaller barrel for slower travel on the horizontal track. A trolly f normally rests against a stop g on the track and carries a pulley h over which passes a rope i connected at one end to the truck and at the other end to a balance weight j having rollers running on guides k. In operation, when the truck reaches the top of the inclined track it engages and carries with it the trolly and raises the balance weight, this arrangement preventing any slack in the hoisting rope as it is wound in more slowly.
