Abstract
250,012. Morgan, F. J. April 3, 1925. Winch-actuated hoists with guided platforms. -A. hoist for raising building material in bulk or in barrows with a labourer in attendance comprises a superstructure mounted on a wheeled base and composed of opposite and vertically disposed side frames, a load carrying platform vertically slidable between the side frames, and winding mechanism for cables attached to the platform disposed in the base. The side-frames 3 are composed of interchangeable sections 20 of L-section each of which is bolted at its upper end to the guide rail 5 and at its lower end to the section immediately below. The lowest sections are bolted to the side frame members 22 of the base 1, and the top sections are connected by a bridge piece 4. Each guide rail 5 is composed of two L- irons spaced apart by distance pieces 6 and bolted together to form a T-shaped member. The load carrying platform 8 is secured to, or pivoted in, a frame having hinged flaps 9 and side members 7 supporting grooved rollers which run on the vertical edges of the guide rails. Cables 11 attached to the members 7 are passed over pulleys 10 and below pulleys 12 and anchored in deeply grooved pulleys 13, a separate pulley being provided for each cable so that each cable winds spirally on itself in a vertical plane. The pulleys 13 are mounted on a shaft 14 which is driven through worm gearing 16, 17 by a shaft 18. An eyed lug 23 on each section of guide rail receives one end 24 of a rod 25, the other end of which is cranked or bent to lie against a horizontal scaffold pole 27 and is lashed thereto. A number of hoists may be mounted on a single wheel base. Safety devices may be provided to lock the platform to the guides when a hoisting cable breaks.
