Abstract

331,647. General Electric Co., Ltd., Stopford, C. W., and Humphreys, O. W. May 21, 1929. Heating by electricity.-An electric immersion heater comprises a metal core 1 preferably of aluminium or an alloy thereof with a continuous resistance wire passing along grooves 2 between ridges 3 and being looped over studs 4 at the end of the ridges the wire being embedded in refractory insulating material in the grooves and a cover 16 being tightly forced over the whole. Insulating blocks 5 and 6 carrying terminals 10 and 11 are mounted on the core and the cover 16 is provided with a hexagonal part 18 and screw thread 17. A cross bar 15 is held in position on rods 19 and 20, attached to the cover 16, by nuts 23 and 24 and spacing pieces 21 and 22, and nuts 12 and 13 on a rod 9, fixed to the core, are screwed against the cross bar to force the core tightly into cover 16.
