Abstract

163,525. Bernard, P. J. H. March 8, 1920. Electric hot-plates and radiators.-A hot-water radiator is provided with a heater of the kind comprising a casing 10 having a plug 23 to which is fixed a bolt 14 carrying a core 13 consisting of a number of compressed mica discs upon which a resistance wire is wound. The heater is provided with terminals 43, 44 carried by the plug 23, one of the terminals being connected to one end of the resistance wire, the other terminal being connected to the bolt 14 to which the other end of the resistance wire is attached at its upper end. The resistance 32 may consist of a strip or of a number of fine wires and is wound in a helical groove in the core 13. The upper end of the resistance is connected by a screw 38 to the core 14, the lower end 41 being held by a screw 46 in the bifurcated end of the terminal 43. The terminal 44 is connected to the bolt 14 by a ccpper washer 47. The mica discs forming the core 13 are consolidated by successive heatings and compressions. Fig. 8 shows a modification iu which the plug 23 is distinct from the casing 10, being carried by the lower threaded end of the bolt 14, a cap 77 being screwed to the plug as shown. The terminals consist of bolts 66, 74 passing through the plug. Fig. 4 shows in plan a stove provided with a number of heaters 10 arranged radially to receive a vessel to be heated.
