Abstract

158,842. Festa Akt.-Ges. Feb. 11, 1920, [Convention date]. Heating by electricity. - Water is heated by a current passed through it between sectorshaped carbon or other electrodes A, B, C disposed around an insulating-tube D, Figs. 1 and 2. Water passes down the tube D into a shell E and upwards between the electrodes into a casing H, having an outlet at the bottom. The current may be supplied by springs F inserted under high pressure into axial grooves in the electrodes and retained by a circumferential notch, or may be supplied by studs screwed into the electrodes. The heater may be used with three-phase current or on an alternating or direct current three-wire system. In the latter case, the electrode A is connected to the neutral wire and the gap between the electrodes B, C is filled with insulating-material.
