Abstract

331,323. Lier, S. K. D. M. van. March 12, 1929, [Convention date]. Universal joints.-A vertic a l centrifugal machine on the shaft 5 is driven by the rotor 1 on the shaft 2. The shafts are connected by a flexible coupling consisting of discs 6, 7 on the shafts 2, 5 respectively; bolts 8 are secured to the disc 6 and pass through holes in the disc 7, helical springs 10 being arranged between the disc 7 and the nuts 9. In the modification shown in Fig. 2. an upstanding flange 12 on the disc 6 forms a lateral boundary for the disc 7. In the further modification shown in Fig. 4, the central pivot 16 on the lower disc engages in a recess in the upper disc, and a plate 21 is provided to support the nuts 9. The springs may be replaced by rubber.
