Abstract

495,278. Torsional vibration-dampers. JUNKERS FLUGZEUG-UND-MOTORENWERKE AKT.-GES. Feb. 21, 1938, No. 5395. Convention date, Feb. 20, 1937. [Class 108 (iii)] [Also in Group XXVI] Means for damping rotational oscillations in shafts comprise masses 21, 22 co-operating in pairs, rotating about the centre of the shaft and pressed by means of spring-pressed plungers 15, 15a against frictional linings 2 i, 26 carried by members 23, 24 secured to the shaft. The plungers are housed in recesses lying on circles of different diameters. The plungers 15, 15a engage smooth surfaces on the masses they engage. The masses may rotate relatively and have polar moments of inertia of equal value. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises a number of modifications. The spring-pressed plungers are arranged in one mass only and lie on one circle only. Constructions are described wherein discs on the shaft each carry two masses, one of which partly surrounds the other and carries the pressure elements. A lining of higher coefficient of friction can be interposed between the masses, or the contact surfaces of the blades may be wedge-shaped. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
