Shaft couplings; securing toothed wheels on shafts; universal joints. - In centrifugallyadjusted shaft and like couplings for magnetotiming &c., the coupled parts are connected by pivoted arms jointed to each other at their adjacent ends, the centrifugal movement being resisted by a blade spring or springs disposed across the joint, so that, on breakage of the springs, the coupling assumes a fully-advanced position. The arms e, e', and k, k<1>, pivoted respectively to the wall b of a driving-drum a and to a disc f screwed or keyed on the driven shaft g, may be built up of stamped laminations spaced by thin paper packing, alternate stamping being cut away at m to form, with pins l, l<1>, hinge joints with the adjacent arms. The blade springs p<1>, preferably composed of at least two superposed blades to increase the damping-effect, are slipped into slots p and retained therein by the parts b, f. The arms are provided with fibre bushes at their pivots d, d<1>, j, j<1>, and may be loaded at the joints l, l<1>. The arms may be solid and provided with fibre bushes at the pins l, P also. The drum a, revoluble on the boss f<1> of the disc f may be toothed to mesh with a driving- pinion or may be adjustably coupled to a driving- shaft t, as by a rubber, vulcanized fibre, or other resilient conical toothed ring u, interposed between male and female cones v, s having teeth differing in number by one.
