Abstract

238,425. Surtees, R. Nov. 19, 1924. Mixing-apparatus.-The emulsifying or mixing of liquids is accomplished by a centrifugal machine having parallel discs b, c with interspaced pegs g. The disc c is on a hollow shaft d through which passes the shaft e carrying the disc b. Ring plates h with smooth or fluted surfaces are attached to the discs at their peripheries and a conical inlet which may be fluted or vaned is secured to the disc b. The discs may rotate in the same direction at different speeds, or in opposite directions. The material is propelled through the inlet to the centres of the discs and passes between the discs where it is subject to the action of the pegs, then between the ring plates to the collecting chamber a. Instead of being provided with pegs the discs may be fluted. The shafts may be supported in independent bearings and each disc may be provided with a feed inlet.
